Introduction

Thank you for downloading the our beta app. Below are some helpful tips to get started on both the Meescan kiosk and mobile devices. For any questions or problems please reach out through the feedback form below or sending an email directly to support@meescan.com.

Initial set up

  • When prompted to allow access to the camera, select ‘Allow’ to allow the camera to scan barcodes.

  • When prompted to allow the app  to use your location, select ‘Allow While Using App’.

Select your library

Your device will automatically detect your location if you are at your library. You may also search for and manually select another location.

You are now ready to use Meescan. If you are on a mobile device, sign in to your patron account and start checking out books. See more details on the mobile app below. If you are operating on a kiosk, continue to the next steps.

Switch to Kiosk Mode

  1. Tap the menu icon on the top right corner to open the flyout menu

  2. Begin tapping the logo multiple times. You will see a countdown appear at the bottom of the screen indicating the number of taps left before activating Kiosk Mode.
  1. Enter your kiosk ID. Your kiosk ID is identical with the one used in the current app. It is usually your nine digit library code prefixed with a Tilda ‘~’. If you don’t know what your kiosk ID is contact support@meescan.com.

  2. Select the location where this kiosk will be installed.

  3. After pressing ‘Start’, your app will convert to Kiosk Mode

Configure your kiosk

The beta will migrate  your preferences from the current app, including configurations for your external devices. If your library uses Mobile Device Management (MDM), these settings will also be imported. 

On the home page in Kiosk Mode, the Configure button is located within the Accessibility Panel on the top left side of the screen. The Configure button will only appear within the first 15 seconds of opening the app or entering Kiosk Mode. After that, it will be hidden for security purposes.

Restore Configure button

To restore the Configure button after it has disappeared, simply switch away from the app and reopen it. You can do this in several different ways, including:

Adjust the configurations to your liking. You may find some configuration settings greyed out if you are using an MDM that controls those configurations.

Your settings are saved as soon as they are adjusted. Tap the ‘X’ at the top left corner to navigate back to the kiosk menu.

If you wish to exit kiosk mode and return to the mobile app, tap  ‘End Kiosk Mode’  at the bottom of the page.

Mobile app

Welcome to your new mobile app layout. Here is a quick guide of where everything is.

  1. Flyout menu

    Tap the hamburger icon to open the flyout menu.

  2. Home button

    Tap the home button to return to the homepage.

  3. Centre button

    The centre button opens your main menu.

  4. Notifications

    See notifications and relevant information from your library.

  5. Patron account

    Tap the Account button to access details about your patron account such as permissions and fines.

  6. Main menu items

    Tap these items to perform actions like checkouts, returns, and more.

  7. My Library

    The My Library button is linked to any URL your library provides. It allows patrons to access your preferred website, for instance your catalogue, without leaving the app.

  8. Patron barcode

    This is a digital version of your patron barcode. Tap to enlarge for easier scanning.

  9. Select location

    Change library locations or get more information about your current library here.

  10. Log in

    Log in to a patron account. You can add and be logged in to multiple accounts at the same time and switch between patrons.

  11. Settings

    Access your in-app settings here.

  12. Feedback

    If problems with the app occur, please leave detailed feedback so we can improve your experience.

  13. Log out

    Logging out will end the session for the logged in patron. If there are multiple logged in accounts, it will only log out of the current patron.
