Patron authentication

Patron authentication

Across mobile devices and kiosks, Meescan supports barcode, magnetic stripe, RFID, single sign-on authentication, and manual entry.

On personal devices, patrons only have to authenticate the first time they use the Meescan app. After that, the app will remember them.

On kiosks, patrons authenticate to begin the transaction. Once the patron is finished checking out items and hits the 'Finish' button, they are automatically logged out to keep their account secure.

Barcode

Meescan supports a variety of barcode symbologies including Codabar, Code 39, Code 11, Code 93, Code 128, Interleaved 2 of 5, MSI, and Databar.

Magnetic stripe

For magnetic stripe authentication, an optional card reader can be mounted to your kiosk. During implementation, our team will test your sample cards and program the card reader to your magnetic stripe format.

Contactless card

For contactless cards (or NFC, tap, etc.), you can send us a pre-configured contactless card reader. During implementation, we'll test your sample cards and then attach the reader to your kiosks.

Manual entry

If a patron doesn't have their library card with them but knows their card number, they can manually enter the details for authentication.

Single sign-on

For single sign-on authentication, we can integrate with federated logins. The Meescan app will have the patron sign into their organizational account with their usual username and password.
