Smart security

Meescan self-checkout is compatible with electromagnetic (EM) security strips. Our EM station is part of the Meescan cloud, which is integrated with your ILS. That means the EM station is smart enough to know when an item is approved for desensitization or not.

Station operation

Patrons begin their checkout using the Meescan app on their device or on a kiosk. To finish, they’ll slide items along the EM station to desensitize them. The classic ‘thunk’ will be audible, along with an automated noise and LED indicator. Since the station is part of the Meescan cloud and integrated with your ILS, the station is smart enough to know whether an item is approved for desensitization or not.

Barcode scanning

Each EM station comes with a barcode scanner to read item barcodes, and is compatible with a wide variety of symbologies. During implementation, our technical team will work with you to place the barcode scanner on the station where it will capture the majority of your barcode placement. If barcode placement is inconsistent across your collection, additional barcode scanners are available for purchase.

Installation

Meescan stations are delivered as “plug and play,” ready for you to set up with no need for on-site technicians. The station is plugged into a power outlet and connected to the library’s ethernet or WiFi network. Because of the convenient cloud connection, stations do not require a direct connection to your ILS, kiosks, or patrons’ mobile devices.

Meescan customers enjoy access to 24/7 technical support through our online support portal. Everyone on our technical team works with the equipment and has the knowledge to answer any of your questions.

Placement

Meescan stations have a small footprint and require very little desk or counter space. Since the stations can be connected to WiFi, you can place them anywhere in your library - like right beside your Meescan kiosks or close to the building exit so patrons can deactivate their items as they leave. There is no limit on the number of stations you can use in your library.

Warranty

Warranty for your EM station is included with your annual Meescan licence, which means there are no extra maintenance fees. We troubleshoot issues remotely so you never have to worry about on-site visits from a technician. If we can’t solve a station issue remotely, we’ll simply send you a new station and have you send the defective station back to us.
