FAQs
What makes Meescan unique?
Meescan is continuously adaptable and highly configurable. Whether you’re integrating RFID security or relocating, Meescan simplifies the process. As your library grows and changes, Meescan can evolve along with it. Our space-saving kiosk design, along with a mobile-only option, ensures a perfect fit for even the smallest library spaces.
Meescan uses a cloud-based design. This means no patron data is downloaded at any point, and all private information stays secured in your library’s database. This also means that almost all issues can be solved remotely – no need for on-site technicians. Patrons experience autonomy, privacy, and simplicity, while libraries enjoy easy installation, great functionality, and lower costs.
What kind of libraries can use Meescan?
Small libraries, big libraries, academic libraries, public libraries, special libraries, and more. Contact our sales team to learn more about how Meescan fits into your library’s unique workflow.
Does our library need to have security for Meescan to work?
No; both the Meescan kiosks and app work without the presence of a security system. As long as your items have barcodes, patrons can scan them for checkout. Electromagnetic (EM) and RFID stations are additional features that can be implemented at any time if your library decides to integrate additional security.
What languages does Meescan support?
By default, Meescan supports English, Spanish, French, and Gaelic. On kiosks, patrons can switch between multiple languages to accommodate a diverse community. Languages can be added as needed, just let us know!
Does Meescan work outside of North America?
Yes; Meescan can currently be found in hundreds of libraries across five continents: North America, Oceania, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Do we need to use both the kiosk and mobile app?
No; both options can be used independently from the other. However, the app is included with every license. Having both the kiosk and mobile app available gives patrons the option to choose what works best for them.
Does Meescan collect personal information?
No; Meescan does not collect or retain any personal information. The Meescan cloud prioritizes security and privacy, encrypting all identifying information while in transit.
How does Meescan communicate with our ILS/LMS? What ILS/LMS brands does Meescan support?
Meescan communicates with your ILS/LMS using a SIP2 connection. We integrate with all major ILS/LMS brands and any ILS/LMS that offers a SIP2 connection.
What is included with custom branding? Is it a mandatory feature?
Custom branding includes a unique version of the Meescan app tailored to your library’s branding. We work with your team to customize the app icon, colours, backgrounds, kiosk engravings, and more. The custom branding license is optional.
What authentication methods are compatible with Meescan?
Meescan allows patrons to log in using various methods. Our key authentication methods include barcode, single sign-on, RFID, magnetic stripe, and NFC tap. If your library uses a different authentication method, our technical team can discuss integrating a new reading device with you.
Is Meescan compatible with other self-checkout systems?
