Introducing self-service returns

What’s the opposite of checking out items? Checking them back in!

Meescan now allows patrons to return items from mobile devices and kiosks. The returns process works very similarly to our self-checkout, so this new feature will feel very familiar to patrons.

For libraries with active security gates, the Meescan security stations are integrated with returns, which means security reactivation is fully supported. Receipts are supported, with options for both printing and emailing. Captive mode is also fully integrated.

Perfect for libraires with unique workflows, enabling the returns feature is optional. If your library would like to enable returns, we offer the flexibility to enable returns at individual locations and even on specific kiosks.

If returns are enabled at your library location, patrons will be presented with a screen to choose between self- checkout and returns. We recommend that you set up a dedicated ‘returns bin’ for patrons to deposit their items once they have been checked in using Meescan.

The new returns feature does require that your ILS supports check-in through the SIP2 protocol, which we’ll test for you during feature set up.
